WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a skin treatment used to rejuvenate the skin and improve the skins surface. It utilises tiny, sterile, disposable needle tips to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural healing response, triggering collagen and elastin production, resulting in smoother, firmer and more youthful-looking skin.

The micro holes created also allow passage of healing serums deeper into the skin. During your Microneedling treatment at Dr Bryant Aesthetics, products are used which offer a cocktail of active ingredients to help different skin concerns. This allows us to tailor treatments based on the individual patients skin concerns.

The procedure can typically be used on the face, neck, chest and hands. Other areas of concern can be discussed with your clinician, as well as possible alternative treatments, or treatments that can be performed in addition to microneedling.

What happens during my Microneedling treatment?

Your clinician will go through your consent form and medical history before treatment.  Some clinical photographs will be taken of the treatment area before and after treatment. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed prior to treatment. A numbing cream may be applied to the area to be treated beforehand. The Microneedling is carried out, using sterile/single-use Microneedling heads and a healing/regenerative  serum. You will be lying down during treatment.

Who is Microneedling suitable for?

While microneedling is generally suitable for many individuals, it may not be recommended for everyone. Microneedling is suitable for individuals looking to improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, treat scars (such as acne scars) or even out skin tone. However, if you have active acne, open wounds, severe eczema or rosacea or are prone to keloid scarring, microneedling may not be suitable for you. Additionally, pregnant or breastfeeding individuals are generally advised to postpone microneedling treatments.

During your consultation, our experienced practitioner will assess your skin condition, medical history and specific concerns to determine if microneedling is the right choice for you. We prioritise your safety and will provide personalised recommendations tailored to your unique needs and skin conditions.

What is the difference between in-clinic Microneedling and Microneedling at home

It is possible to do skin needling at home but typically devices sold for home use have shorter needle lengths and therefore cannot produce the same benefits as in-clinic microneedling. It is also crucial to make sure that both the skin and the device are sterile, to avoid the risks of infection, therefore a clinical environment and single use, sterile Microneedling heads are recommended to carry out this treatment.

Does Microneedling hurt?

Most patients find the treatment easily tolerable. Compared to other rejuvenation methods– such as laser– it has minimal downtime and lower levels of discomfort. However, if there is a concern about discomfort during the procedure, a topical anaesthetic can be used to increase your comfort. Every patient’s needs are different, so make sure to discuss this with your clinician.

Where can Microneedling be used?

Common areas for Microneedling include the face, neck, décolletage and hands but really, it can be used anywhere on the body that requires improvement in skin quality.

How many Microneedling treatment do I need to see results?

Your practitioner will recommend the number of microneedling treatments required to achieve the desired results. Treatment usually consists of a series of microneedling procedures with approximately 4-6 weeks between them. Commonly 4 to 6 treatments are required for optimum results.

In the treatment of stretch marks, acne scars and other types of scarring, more procedures may be necessary and combination treatments are often recommended for improved effectiveness. For example, treatments such as chemical peels, mesotherapy, skin boosters, LED light therapy or a bespoke skin care plan can be used as part of the treatment program alongside microneedling. Your practitioner will advise on the best treatment combination during your consultation.

How long does it take to see results following Microneedling treatment?

Expect full results after about 4-6 weeks. While you won't see dramatic improvements right away, microneedling can gradually transform your skin. You might notice a brighter complexion within a week but for the full effects, like reduced wrinkles or scars, expect to wait 4-6 weeks. That’s roughly the time it takes your body to ramp up collagen production and for the skin cells to turnover entirely, both key factors in achieving that youthful glow.

What are the Potential Risks of Microneedling and how we minimise these at Dr Bryant Aesthetics?

While microneedling is generally safe, it is important to be aware of potential risks. These may include:
