WHAT ARE ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS (BOTOX)?
Otherwise known as Botox® or muscle relaxing injections, anti-wrinkle injections reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing specifically targeted facial muscles.
Over time repeated skin folding and decreased skin elasticity, due to collagen reduction with ageing, cause permanent lines in the skin. These lines can become more noticeable as we age and can make us look older. Botulinum Toxin causes muscle relaxation for 2-4 months (on average) by temporarily disrupting nerve activity to muscles. The injected muscle can't contract, which allows wrinkles to relax and soften. Botox treatment involves small injections into the target muscle of the face or neck, resulting in a natural, more relaxed facial appearance.
WHAT CAN ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS BE USED FOR?
Anti-wrinkle injections are an effective solution for various cosmetic concerns and can provide a refresh for the whole face but can be particularly effective for:
Forehead Lines: Botox can significantly reduce horizontal forehead lines that appear due to repetitive facial expressions and ageing.
Frown Lines (Glabellar Lines): Also known as "11 lines" or frown lines, Botox relaxes the muscles between the eyebrows, minimising the appearance of vertical wrinkles.
Crow's Feet: Botox injections around the outer corners of the eyes can soften and diminish the fine lines known as crow's feet.
Brow Lift: By strategically injecting Botox into specific facial muscles, we can achieve a subtle brow lift, giving a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
Downturned mouth corners: Botox can be injected into the muscles that pull down the corners of the mouth, helping to reduce the appearance of a downturned or sad smile.
Reduce the appearance of a gummy smile: Botox can be used to relax the over active muscle that pulls the lip up when smiling.
Reduce the appearance of lip lines: Botox can be used to relax the muscles around the lips that that can contribute to the appearance of lip lines or ‘smokers lines’.
Chin dimpling or ‘cobblestone’ skin on the chin: Botox can help relax an overactive chin (mentalis) muscle, which reduces dimpling of the chin and horizontal line between chin and lower lip, thus giving the chin a smoother more relaxed look.
Reduce tooth grinding/clenching: For those suffering with pain, headaches or other symptoms caused by tooth grinding/clenching (Bruxism), Botox can be a very effective treatment to relax the clenching muscles and reduce symptoms.
Facial slimming: Botox can be administered into the masseter muscle (a large muscle located at the corner of the lower jaw) to reduce its bulk. This over time can help narrow the lower face and give a more feminine heart shaped face.
Smoothing the neck: Botox can be used to relax the muscles (platysma muscles) that bulge when we tense our neck. This treatment can help reduce neck lines and even help lift the lower face.
To reduce/stop excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis): Botox can be used in various areas of the body from face, hands to underarms, to reduce the activity of the sweat glands.

What happens during my Anti-wrinkle treatment?
Your clinician will go through your consent form and medical history before treatment. Some clinical photographs will be taken of the treatment area before and after treatment. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed prior to and during treatment. The Anti-wrinkle treatment is injected using a fine needle. You will be lying down with your head slightly raised during treatment.
Who is Anti-wrinkle (Botox) treament for?
While Botox is generally suitable for many individuals with signs of ageing, it may not be recommended for everyone. Botox injections are suitable for individuals seeking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, especially those created when contracting the muscles (dynamic wrinkles) particularly in the forehead, frown lines and crow's feet areas. However, if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a history of neuromuscular disorders or are allergic to any ingredients in the anti-wrinkle medication, the treatment may not be suitable for you. Additionally, individuals with certain medical conditions or taking specific medications may need to exercise caution or seek medical advice before proceeding with Botox.
During your consultation, our experienced practitioner will assess your medical history and specific concerns to determine if Botox is the right choice for you. We prioritise your safety and will provide personalised recommendations tailored to your unique needs and medical circumstances.
Who shouldn't get Anti-wrinkle injections?
Anyone under 18 years of age is not suitable for cosmetic anti-wrinkle treatment. People with active infections (like acne or cold sores), pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with certain medical conditions and individuals with certain allergies may not be suitable candidates. Always consult a healthcare professional to see if Anti-wrinkle treatments are right for you.

Does Anti-wrinkle treatment hurt?
You may feel minimal discomfort but injections are usually less uncomfortable than you expect. At Dr Bryant Aesthetics we use very tiny needles to minimise any discomfort and can apply numbing cream to the area beforehand, if requested.
What are the potential risks associated with Anti-wrinkle (Botox) treatments and how we minimise these at Dr Bryant Aesthetics?
While anti-wrinkle injections are generally safe, it is important to be aware of potential risks. These may include:
Temporary Bruising or Swelling: Redness or a few small bumps may appear in the treatment area immediately afterwards. Mild bruising or swelling may occur at the injection sites, but these are less common and typically subside within a few days. At Dr Bryant Aesthetics we use tiny needles to minimise the risk of bruising.
Allergic Reactions: Although very rare, allergic reactions to Botox can occur. At Dr Bryant Aesthetics, we conduct a thorough assessment of your medical history and perform a patch test if necessary to minimise the risk of allergic reactions.
Temporary Drooping or Asymmetry: In rare cases, temporary drooping or asymmetry of facial muscles may occur. However, our skilled practitioner is trained to precisely administer Botox injections, minimising the risk of such complications.
Headache or Flu-Like Symptoms: Some individuals may experience mild headache or flu-like symptoms following the procedure, but these are typically temporary and resolve quickly.
At Dr Bryant Aesthetics, your safety and well-being are of utmost importance to us. Our experienced practitioner follows best practices, maintain up-to-date knowledge, and employ meticulous techniques to minimise any potential risks associated with Botox injections.
